Mr Deepak Komath is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon specialising in disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). He practises in both the NHS and the private sector in London, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and surgical management of jaw-joint pain and dysfunction — from advanced keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery through to complex reconstruction and joint replacement.

He cares for both adults and adolescents, and is recognised internationally as a trainer of other surgeons in the most advanced level of TMJ arthroscopy.

A considered, multidisciplinary approach

Mr Komath built his practice around a simple conviction: jaw pain is too often treated in fragments, when it needs one coordinated team. Around him sit specialist radiologists, ENT surgeons, physiotherapists, dentists, clinical psychologists and sleep physiologists — so that imaging, surgery and supportive care are planned together, with him as the single accountable lead for each patient's pathway.

His surgical philosophy is to begin with the least intervention that will work, and to reserve advanced surgery for clear indications — while having the depth to help the most complex cases, including revision and salvage surgery that other clinics may decline.

An international trainer in advanced arthroscopy

Mr Komath is one of a small group of surgeons who train others in Level 3 TMJ arthroscopy — the most advanced form of keyhole jaw surgery. For the past seven years he has led arthroscopy fellowships across Europe: Udine (Italy), Groningen and Amsterdam (the Netherlands), and London (Royal Free, UK).

Research & outcomes

An active clinical researcher, Mr Komath maintains a prospective, consented database of his surgical outcomes — an unusually rigorous practice that allows his results to be measured and reported honestly rather than asserted.
